Well, it's good to know what democrats are really about. It's a good thing we have gone a whole eight years without one in office.

:iconfirheruwen:
because everyone knows that all Democrats care about is their looks, while Republicans are the only ones capable of running the country...

into a war and a recession and the removal of various rights.

Oh, and which rights were removed? I can't recall.

And really, we were being so selfish by going into Iraq and helping to support their country. We should have left the Iraqi citizens to die, don't you agree?

:iconfirheruwen:
yeah I am going to have to disagree with you on the reasons for invading Iraq. It sure seems like a lot of them are still dying, and not remarkably pleased with us. There are several other areas of the world which would appear to need our "help" not dying as well, but we aren't in them.

Maybe you are not familiar with the term "civil liberties" and the "patriot act"? Perhaps you should look into that.

Their are certainly less dying than before. And aren't they working on their own democracy, now?

That isn't taking away our rights. Really, do you think Bush woke up one morning and decided he wanted to listen in on a random teenager's phone calls? Just because they don't need the court's permission to search someone, it doesn't mean that they are going to abuse it. It's not against our rights, either. The Constitution states that in times of terrorism, the government can overlook some of those laws in order to protect us.

:iconfirheruwen:
actually, I think the government will abuse powers like that. I think it is a very slippery slope when our rights and civil liberties are given away. It is easy for a government to make the gradual shift to some kind of fascism, and that scares me. I am uncomfortable with the government "overlooking" laws, because that is not a path I want to see the end of.

We're more likely to move to Fascism through Democracy. In fact, read Liberal Fascism. It talks a lot about how Fascism could appear in America.

One thing in that book stuck out to me: Clinton and Obama support ideas that the Nazis also supported.

I am sorry, I can't stop laughing that "liberal fascism" is a term someone used. And yes, people do love tenuous connections (that don't prove much) between Hitler and... anyone.

That doesn't make it any less serious.

Actually I think it makes it sort of ridiculous.
